Story 1

In 2024, while working as an MD at Citi, I was subjected to the most biased, frankly shocking, HR investigation of my 25 year career. What at first appeared to be a routine inquiry quickly turned into a hit job shaped less by facts and more by assumptions, insinuations, and gendered interpretation of behavior.

The investigation included lines of questioning that relied heavily on subjective judgment and insinuation rather than objective evidence. Innuendo was introduced where none belonged. Ordinary professional interactions were reframed in ways that would not have been applied to male colleagues.

What struck me most was not just the outcome, but the process itself. There was little effort to understand intent, history, or performance. The standard applied to me was different — narrower, harsher, and far less forgiving than what I had routinely seen extended to men for far more serious conduct. There was zero care for the degree to which they were willing to malign my reputation internally to frame me as threat.

In short, what is happening at Citi in terms of the sheer number of women who are leaving is no accident.

My manager, knowing full well I was under-employed in my current position, asked if I saw a future for myself at Citi, clearly trying to gauge whether I’d quit. On the day of performance roundtables, he walked over to my desk and asked point blank if I wanted to leave, shortly after I raised concerns…

A female employee of Hispanic background with a near-20-year tenure with Citi raised her discontent to me on the first day we met. Nothing new unfortunately – three line managers in 10 months of just one year, unclear roles and responsibilities due to endless reorganization/transformation, and stalled career… Except…she just gave birth and had suffered…

To Story 264. Fraser appeared to do a lot for women when she first became CEO; I’ll give you that. But it’s clear now that it was a performative kiss-ass to the Biden administration. The minute Donald Trump was in office, she dismantled DEI, going so far as to forbid anyone from attending or supporting…

A couple of months ago I submitted story 83, and I’m coming back here to report that I was laid off last week as part of Citi’s ongoing round of cuts. Unfortunately I can’t say I was surprised by the layoff though it was still a jarring experience. Since the start of the year, my…

When concerns about bullying, harassment, and discriminatory conduct were raised at Citi (former USPB), HR’s response was predictable and scripted: invoke an MD’s prerogative, then delegate the complaint perfunctorily to junior personnel without the seniority, authority, or institutional standing to challenge a managing director with a documented history of exactly what was being reported. You…

Re: Story 273 and 274. And we’ve now gone full circle. Of the 4 people that preceded the current Head of EDO, 3 were men and still employed at Citi. The one female was fired for allegedly refusing to lie to regulators. Oh f*ck … That looks a lot like retaliation doubled with discrimination in…
