Story 342

This website is not easy to search but if you take five mins to randomly click on old stories, you will be amazed at what you find. The headlines are about discrimination, retaliation, careers derailed, and institutions that abused their power, of course.

But they are about something bigger and more profound: They are about women who keep going.

Women who built careers, raised families, mentored colleagues, cared for aging parents, volunteered in their communities, and somehow continued to believe that hard work and integrity still mattered—even after being treated as though they didn’t.

I’m struck by their resilience.

Not because they were obligated to have it. Quite the opposite.

Many had every reason to become bitter. Many lost jobs they loved, careers they had spent decades building, financial security, confidence, even their health.

To all of you: I hope one day we build workplaces that deserve you.

P.S. Here are the stories that struck me when I took five mins to randomly click around: 24, 40, 90, 94 & 101.

As a 67yo woman who is relatively famous in our industry for being unconventional, this is a hard road to hoe. What’s different is that you don’t have to row it like I did: social media virality + first amendment protections make a lot of things possible that I’m not sure were options in my…

I sympathize with others on this site. I worked in HR. Shortly after raising a gender based pay inequity complaint I was terminated for “cost cutting” reasons, and replaced by a more costly male candidate. After connecting with current and former employees across the firm I realized my situation was not unique, but part of…

Story #84 – I resonate with your story so deeply. I’m truly sorry you’re still enduring this nightmare. You’re not alone in it, even if it feels that way every day. This is the painful flip side we don’t talk about enough: when women in power mimic the worst traits of the boys’ club—ego, bullying,…

To the community, I’ve been reading the stories here for some time, and like many of you, I recognize the patterns. Most recently from Stories 331, 327 and 324, but there are many others. While our individual experiences may not strictly be the same, and each deserves to stand on its own terms, I think…
