Word is getting out that Citi’s HR department is firing more and more employees for cause rather than doing a layoff – this way they don’t have to pay severance and it’s a legal way for them to keep (er, steal) someone’s unvested stock options.

It’s about greed.

I’ve heard of four women in two weeks.

To that end, if you are under active investigation for what you believe is a false or trumped up allegation, you should consider going out on FMLA leave and hiring an attorney to negotiate terms. It is my understanding that you have more leverage BEFORE they fire you. From what I’m hearing, the terrible, false accusations that HR is packing into people’s files is designed to make sure no lawyer will represent you after they’ve done their work on you.

Best to be on offense when it comes to these terrible, careless people.
