Story 8

A female employee of Hispanic background with a near-20-year tenure with Citi raised her discontent to me on the first day we met. Nothing new unfortunately – three line managers in 10 months of just one year, unclear roles and responsibilities due to endless reorganization/transformation, and stalled career…

Except…she just gave birth and had suffered from a serious health issue. Yet still, the management in Citi Wealth took her job away and stuck her under a peer with no clear career path or scope. My line manager put her (instead of a white male as I intended) on the redundancy list even though my line manager never met her.

The HR malpractice is shocking at an alarming scale. Typically a maternity returner should keep her job or be given a comparable role. Her leave should not be the reason of her subpar performance review or redundancy. HR record should reflect that. Shame on Citi Wealth management and HR to take advantage of people’s life events and kill their careers. With an employer like this, who needs enemies?!

I agree with Story 256. Someone unfamiliar with Citi’s culture might think the incidents are too outrageous to be believed. And yet. They are true and there is worse. I had never thought I’d live to experience anything like it. Setting aside the gendered misconduct for a moment, what does that culture look like on…

My daughter forwarded me the article about this site from efinancialcareers.com. I just wanted to drop a note providing my support for what these courageous women are doing. She has spoken for years about the double standard of professional conduct that women are held to, but it sounds like Citi’s HR department doesn’t even try…
