Story 176

I recommend reading Sarah Butcher’s latest article. It highlights a striking situation at Citigroup: the firm’s women’s network is led by a man who has previously been reported in the press for publicly “berating” and harassing some of the most accomplished women in financial services.

He then brazenly publishes a LinkedIn post portraying himself as a hero, while gloating about “winning when backed into a corner.” As the article points out, this seems like a direct salvo at the many women who say their careers and livelihoods were lost to Citi’s deeply compromised HR department.

If you want to share your story with the press on background*, contact the reporters who are covering this. Besides Butcher, there’s Akila.Quinio@ft.com. Justin Cash @ Financial News. And last summer Todd Gillespie @ Bloomberg.

I was covering a role temporarily as a favor to my boss, on top of my regular work. When asked if I wanted to keep it and I said no, I was layered under someone recognized to be less qualified—without warning. This wouldn’t have happened had I been an Indian male, younger. When challenged, my…

At one point I was discussing with my line manager and HR to upgrade a role under me by hiring someone externally to replace an internal veteran. Given the long tenured contributions by the internal veteran, I want to be respectful and thoughtful to find her a role that would suit her. Instead HR was…

My manager, knowing full well I was under-employed in my current position, asked if I saw a future for myself at Citi, clearly trying to gauge whether I’d quit. On the day of performance roundtables, he walked over to my desk and asked point blank if I wanted to leave, shortly after I raised concerns…
