Story 123

I’m a woman in my late 20s working on the buyside, and not enough is said about the role women sometimes play in undermining their peers’ careers. A few years ago, two of my colleagues were competing for a promotion, and one of them, in an attempt to get ahead, started flirting with senior bankers.

Eventually, she got involved in an inappropriate situation with our line MD, who had teenage kids, and an accomplished wife. She then leveraged her influence with the MD to sabotage her peer and push her out of the team.

Want to know how I found out about their affair? My sister lived in the same apartment building as this colleague, and she noticed the MD’s car parked on the street nearby for hours after a social event and saw them entering the building together and leaving couple of hours later.
