Story 274

Dear Story 273,
You make excellent points about the churn in Citi’s Enterprise Data office. The dysfunction there runs long and deep. The firm was sued by a senior hire brought in from JPMorgan in 2021 to run governance for the program—I knew her, and she was both capable and effective.

According to her lawsuit, she was fired by COO [REDACTED] after refusing to lie to regulators about the program’s status. She was then replaced by someone with far less relevant experience, but with close ties to [REDACTED]. Worth noting that [REDACTED] staggering incompetence is the reason why Wealth was driven into a ditch before [REDACTED] arrived, and the person [REDACTED] replaced [REDACTED] with was also a factor in why Wealth failed.

So they promoted two men who had visibly failed and were accused of lying to regulators into more senior roles, which tells you everything you need to know about the company’s ethics (or lack thereof).

And, oh, Citi settled this lawsuit – what does that tell you?

Law across jurisdictions should not enforce mediation, arbitration, or NDAs with the corporates in workplace sexual harassment cases because they undermine accountability and the public purpose of anti-harassment law. Sexual harassment is not a private contractual dispute but a violation of dignity, equality, and statutory rights. Forcing such claims into confidential processes removes them from…

These stories are horrific, disturbing, and just foul. Many are violent and highly sexual in nature. That alone should concern all of us. But beyond the content itself, we need to be honest about the purpose of collecting and amplifying them in a public space If the intent is to “open the floodgates,” then there…

As a 67yo woman who is relatively famous in our industry for being unconventional, this is a hard road to hoe. What’s different is that you don’t have to row it like I did: social media virality + first amendment protections make a lot of things possible that I’m not sure were options in my…

Story 365 – I worked briefly at JPM after it acquired First Republic. My experience is that [REDACTED] is a menace, but that’s not what I came here to say. What shocked me was the degree to which employees behaved as though they were part of the Cult of Dimon. No matter how basic or…
