Story 279
1/2
I work in finance, which loves to believe it’s hyper-rational and merit-based. My wife’s a Korean pediatric dentist – excellent at what she does – but she still deals with patients second-guessing her, assuming she’s not the doctor, or making the usual awkward comments about where she’s “really” from. It’s rarely dramatic, just constant and unnecessary.
Of course it’s not that different in our business. Female colleagues get interrupted, talked over, or only taken seriously after someone else repeats their point. There’s also the usual double standard – what passes as confident for men somehow becomes “too much” for women.
What’s ridiculous is that in 2026, the expectation is still that women should just smile and keep things moving. Everyone says they believe in equality, but a lot of the day-to-day behavior doesn’t show it.
I came here to show support after a female colleague told about the site. Can’t stand the thought of our daughters dealing with this crap. Keep up the great work.
