Story 287, I am deeply moved and saddened by your story. It’s long past time this country has a conversation about the erosion of corporate ethics and the rise of corporate greed. There was a time when corporations saw themselves as part of the community. They built products, created careers, and invested in the towns where they operated.
Over time, too many have shifted toward one goal: maximizing profits at all costs.
Workers are expenses to cut. Customers are data to monetize. Ethics are empty words on a page instead of guiding principles.
A society that is increasingly transactional, fragmented, and disconnected from any larger sense of shared responsibility is not one that will ultimately be good for humans. And as much as people like Sam Altman and Bill Gates want to believe people will be replaced with AI, I’m left wondering: If there are no humans left, who will buy their stuff?
