Story 293

A woman recovering from cancer was denied the ability to work from home during COVID while, according to Story 210, a male employee wrapped his car around a telephone pole while intoxicated with two small children in the backseat. Not only was he reportedly forgiven and allowed to keep his brokerage licenses, but he was also recently promoted. AND IT MADE THE NEWS!

People can debate individual facts and circumstances all they want, but nobody will ever convince me there isn’t a profound problem in how Citi treats women versus men. To echo 210: No wonder so many of us have deep rage.

I am grateful for this platform. But reading these stories, I have to ask, do people truly understand what this does to us? It is not just a moment. It is a ripple effect that follows us for years. Gaps in our résumés that are not gaps at all, but proof of endurance, survival, and…

RE: Story 268 Fair enough but how would hiring more women into leadership roles or sponsoring them mitigate any of the risks indicated in your examples? You appear all over the place and are criticizing without rhyme and reason. Let’s cut Jane some slack. She has done a wonderful job which should be celebrated.

No one has discussed Citi’s accountability framework, the HR tool that maps disciplinary actions to categories of offense, ranging from warning to termination. In principle: consistent consequences regardless of rank. In practice: a tool that is not being applied to the managers complained about, who remain in their roles. The point is this: a framework or a…
