A procedural win against Citi that’s worth watching
One of the women suing Citi over alleged misconduct by its Head of Wealth won an important procedural round last month.
A federal judge ruled that her case can proceed in New York. Citi’s lawyers had pushed to move it to Texas.
Why does that matter? For those unfamiliar, Texas is generally less favorable to employee claims than New York. Where a case is heard can shape how it unfolds.
Citi works hard to keep legal noise about itself to a minimum. Employment letters often include confidentiality provisions, and departures tend to be wrapped up neatly with releases signed in exchange for modest severance.
So the next move is the interesting one. Will Citi roll the dice and appeal, risking a second public loss if the appeal fails?
If they do, I’d read it as a tell: a sign they’re concerned about what public discovery might surface about one of their top executives.
