Story 77

Citi’s culture is so toxic that the word itself is inadequate. It’s insidious to the point that if you work there long enough you lose any sense of orientation. The Canary Wharf office, where I was located was a sewer.

There was an executive in wealth who was such a dangerous psychological predator that one of his female employees would force herself to throw up before meeting with him so she would be too physically depleted to cry during their interactions. He once berated a recently hired MD for four straight days over email. She apologized for upsetting him – although everything did – and repeatedly asked him to move the discussion offline but he would not stop.

The gaslighting and projection in that exchange was so extreme that it was forwarded across the entire organization. But sadly this was normal behavior from him that the organization clearly enabled.

It’s astonishing that these accounts have remained concealed for so long. The trauma I have from the place is long lasting.

Story 167, excellent point. Citi is always two steps ahead when it comes to corruption. Jane sure has her “stand by my man” routine down pat with this executive although we noted that she stood him up at his Town Hall this week – it appears even loyalty has its scheduling conflicts.
