Misogyny? Most def not…
When challenged about the unequal treatment of women in the workplace, senior male executives often reach for the same familiar defence: I have a wife. I have daughters. I was raised by a strong woman. Speaking warmly about the women you love does not absolve you when you remain silent while women in the workplace are mistreated, excluded or denied recognition. Let that sink in!
Also, the women who undermine other women, endorse the conduct of powerful men or compromise their peers to secure their own standing become part of the machinery that’s problematic. Women are pitted against one another, encouraged to compete for recognition and access, while the men in authority who orchestrate or exploit those divisions retain their power and continue to benefit. Divide and rule works best when women are made to compete, allowing the men in power to thrive.
And so, the never-ending cycle continues!
