Story 76

A few years ago, the Head of Wealth at Citi imposed a hire on the Head of the Private Bank. A white male who worked had worked for the Head of Wealth at a prior firm and was now “retired”. The “retirement” was due to inappropriate relationships with someone at a prior firm. Needless to say, the Head of the Private Bank was never told this information, and she didn’t have much say in the hire as this person emerged from retirement to join Citi.

Fast forward 3 months, and the new hire is now accused of inappropriate conduct with an intern. Citi party line became he had a family emergency, and he literally walked out and left the firm the same day. Manager, team – no one was told anything more, and it was effectively buried by Head of Wealth. Suspicious, as family emergencies usually warrant a gesture- flowers, cards, and something by the team, manager, firm to show support. There were no details, and he was never heard from again.

Best part? Departed employee was evidently paid mid-8 figures to keep his mouth shut. And he has.

Everyone in Wealth knows the story because he left so abruptly after such a short tenure, and there are no secrets at Citi. Nothing is sacred.

Story 59 is familiar. Male MD in Citi’s London wealth office who left in 2024. I spent a ton of time and effort in 2021/2022 hiring women off the back of Fraser’s very public DEI push, only to be told by new management in late 2023 to wipe them all out. Pretty brutal whiplash. I…

In CCAR-adjacent functions — processes subject to federal oversight and with direct implications for how a bank represents its financial stability to regulators — governance exists precisely because the stakes of getting it wrong extend beyond the institution to the broader financial system. I worked at a finance firm as a Vice President for over 9 years. When a new senior VP joined the company, he openly described himself as someone who ran the“old boys club,” even saying so in a team meeting. Although we disagreed at times, I remained professional. Over time, he began singling me out,…

I’ve been watching the site traffic here since it made the press. I’m one of many women who, I believe, was wronged by Citi’s HR department for reasons that still don’t fully make sense to me. I don’t think I’ll ever understand it. There will always be people who dismiss a site like this as…

Story 200 I see you and support you. The senior management of the Data team has been a joke for a long time. I was one of several employees who filed complaints when the former Wealth CTO was installed as our leader, forcing out an experienced data leader (who was also a decent human) who…
