Story 183

1/2

I worked for a senior executive in technology for one large back in late 2000s- as his right hand management consultant – driving strategy, managing and rescuing all his failing programs being available all the time. One day he asked me to suck his p*nis while we were working on a board presentation. I didn’t comply but sat in silence and embarrassment. I acted as if I didn’t hear him, while tears streamed down my face. Two days later his assistant told me he had to let me go because his budget was not approved. I never said anything to anyone. He held that executive position for years after. Now sits in another firm at a very senior role. I wanted to go to HR or to a lawyer but knowing this person was very powerful, wealthy, my mother advised me against it. I was scared I’d never work again or end up in the east river. I stayed silent.

You will be sacrificed on the altar of corruption. The Pattern A director was protected by their network despite everyone knowing they’d delivered nothing. Former colleagues stated that person shouldn’t have been promoted past VP….

To Story 246 / 247, and to this forum: Thank you for your extension. It added something your original response couldn’t carry alone — the self-implication, the long road, the honest accounting of what it cost you to get here. It allowed me to hear you differently, and I’m grateful you shared it. I want…

I’ve spent more than twenty years on Wall Street, and what surprises me is not that inequities exist, but how persistent and deeply embedded they remain. For all the progress that’s been discussed—and occasionally celebrated—the day-to-day reality tells a different story. The industry still operates, in many ways, as a closed circle, where informal networks…
