Story 187

I will admit to checking this site twice a day — it has become part of my routine. I’ve contributed two stories myself. As a woman in my 50s, often feeling exhausted and demoralized by the state of the world, I find it genuinely refreshing to come here and see that my experiences are not in isolation. The number of stories that resonate with me can, at times, be almost unsettling.

In response to your Editorial Note, I understand the need for caution, particularly when it comes to legal risk. But I find myself wanting to raise a broader, more philosophical question about fairness.

There is someone in the industry who many of us believe has set progress on diversity and inclusion back by decades. By all accounts, he has derailed the careers of countless talented women. If that is the reality, then what does “fairness” actually mean?

Is it the equal application of rules? The consistent enforcement of standards? Or is it something more intangible — a shared belief that outcomes are earned and that the system itself can be trusted?

Is it fair that he continues, unchecked, to inflict this kind of damage on people’s lives?

At this stage in my career and life, I find myself questioning whether justice is ever truly served when the system seems structured to protect the powerful and wear down everyone else.
