My Story Is Not Unique: An Open Invitation, An If and When You Are Ready

We want to begin by saying : we admire the courage it takes to share your stories. The stories held here matter. They reflect truth, resilience, and care for yourselves and for others who may recognize their own experiences in yours. Stories like these deserve to be witnessed and, when chosen, given space beyond silence.

We’re gently sharing an optional invitation from the podcast My Story Is Not Unique, a long-form storytelling space created for people to speak in their own voice, on their own terms.

Using our voice can be a single moment, and it can also be a series of choices made over time. Some people speak once. Others return to their story later, from a different place. There is no right timeline, no obligation to share everything, and no expectation to relive what was painful.

If you feel called, now or at some point in the future, you’re welcome to reach out to the podcast team to explore whether sharing your story in an audio format feels right for you. Many guests choose to focus not only on what happened, but on how they made sense of it, how they healed, or how they moved forward. All of that is honored.

A few important things to know:

  • This invitation is entirely optional
  • No identifying information is being shared from this site, and no one will be contacted directly
  • You remain in full control of what you share and how much you share
  • Speaking is a choice; choosing not to speak is equally valid

Your story already holds power. This is simply an open door for those who wish to use their voice now or later in a way that feels aligned. If you feel that moment is now, please reach out to our community email address below.

Watching commentators on the Golf Channel discuss Phil Mickelson’s banishment from his club got me thinking about how when action against influential people occurs, it’s natural to wonder what happened behind the scenes. The public rarely has access to the full story, but organizations clearly understand that removing a prominent figure carries costs of its…

Inspired by Stories 353 and 354. In standard crisis management—whether you’re dealing with a catastrophic oil spill or a major data breach—the golden rules are always the same: Transparency, Apology, and Remediation. This ensures public trust is preserved while organizational health is being repaired. Yet, when it comes to addressing systemic ethical failures and HR…

“We must do what they fear – tell the truth, spread the truth.” Alexei Navalny I was raised with conventional wisdom from another continent: don’t confront the attacker, it’ll make it worse. For years, I believed this. One day, I realized that while there is some truth to it, it was also a disservice to…

I am a woman at Citi. I have been personally impacted by the weaponization of HR processes and unequal enforcement of workplace policies here. Hearing other women share their stories is so inspiring and I would very much like to share mine. However, for fear of retaliation, I feel like I have to save it…

Concerns aren’t incomprehensible; they are inconvenient. During ERM town-halls at Citi, employees started submitting anonymous comments about retaliation by managers who kept being promoted. The comments got uncomfortable. Eventually, anonymous questions were no longer allowed. Leadership said they ‘couldn’t help without knowing what was going on.’ The irony was lost on no one: the reason…

Citi called it transformation. It fossilized in place. There was a reorganization. We were told it would put the right people in the right roles. Performance would be managed. This institution was serious about change. What happened instead is this: the people who had no business being in ERM technology stayed. People with no knowledge…
