Story 181

As an early contributor to this site, I’ll take a guess that Citi’s C-suite is at least aware of it by now. I don’t believe for a second that any of them care in terms of culture, employees, or even customers. These are Careless People, focused on their own compensation and that of their cronies.

But there are enough stories here now that it can’t be dismissed as one-offs. The place appears to have deep, deep rot.

At the very least, if it comes up at a dinner party attended by Jane Fraser, she can laugh it off in the moment – but it’s hard to imagine she doesn’t find it humiliating. And frankly, there’s a lot of satisfaction in that because after 20 years in leadership positions, she can’t say she’s not responsible.

Word is getting out that Citi’s HR department is firing more and more employees for cause rather than doing a layoff – this way they don’t have to pay severance and it’s a legal way for them to keep (er, steal) someone’s unvested stock options. It’s about greed. I’ve heard of four women in two…

I’ve been at Citi Private Bank for nearly 13 years, and have seen my share of chaos. But since 2021, the dysfunction is unlike anything I’ve ever witnessed. Leadership talks endlessly about “transformation,” but the reality inside is far worse than what’s acknowledged publicly. Citi has a long history of elevating the wrong leaders. A…

After 20+ years at Citi, I was subjected to an HR investigation earlier this year and terminated without severance for a petty offense. In my view, this is a well-established tactic used by the company to avoid its financial obligations to long-serving employees. After hiring an attorney to review my case, I was told that…
