Story 258

I agree with Story 256. Someone unfamiliar with Citi’s culture might think the incidents are too outrageous to be believed. And yet. They are true and there is worse. I had never thought I’d live to experience anything like it.

Setting aside the gendered misconduct for a moment, what does that culture look like on the ground?

In Tech & Data, it looks like a senior leader who can’t find time for team meetings but reliably prioritizes three-hour lunches with an entourage in tow.

It looks like jeans worn the way no dress code would permit (picture — or not ! — a plump plumber) because the dress code, like every other rule, is for the Tampa birds.

The insanity is the logical output of a place where accountability has never been enforced.

Membership in the fraternity, yacking loudly in [a language that is not English] in the office, inclusive only of your kin — a badge of honor.

Story 374, Story 375 here. Holy cow. I love that we share a similar sentiment about bringing shame back. What a beautiful coincidence that we wrote the same thing at almost the same time. People reading this probably assume it’s coordinated but you and I know it’s The Universe out there doing its Universe-thing. Bless!

The Moral Stakes: When Complicity Is By Design The people running these systems know they’re corrupt. They’re not confused. They’re complicit. I was recruited to Citi in early 2023. At my first company mixer, during a conversation with three female Managing Directors, they openly discussed HR’s flagrant hostility toward women. Spent the next two years networking my way back to my former firm and escaped in 2025. Don’t understand how this isn’t a risk issue for…

My wife and I are both in the business. She showed me story 257 because she knew it would make me laugh. I moved to Citi from BofA after the financial crisis and can only describe it as landing on Mars—stripped naked, with a single bottle of water, staring at a sign that says: “Good…

112: your story resonated deeply. What you’ve documented at Wells Fargo isn’t isolated—I witnessed the same repeating pattern at Citi in Tech & Data. A C15 role came open. There was a highly qualified female candidate with a proven track record. Instead, an Indian male had been pre-appointed. When the hiring MD was confronted privately,…

RE: Story 59 Based on my two decades of experience in capital markets at a large Canadian bank as a woman, I have consistently observed that during layoffs, men of color are let go first, followed by women. Only when no other options remain are white men affected. While leadership often points to DEI initiatives,…
