Story 311

Story 310: Thank you for your incisive analysis of Fortune’s seeming pay-to-play article on Jane Fraser.

I agree with every word and would just add that, like most of today’s leaders – male and female – she expects to have it both ways.

1. In the recent article by Barron’s, which I assume Citi “paid for” by way of promised advertising dollars, something Barron’s (and Forbes) are famous for, Fraser goes out of her way to say she doesn’t want to be remembered for being a female leader. She wants simply to be judged as an effective leader.

2. But in this Forbes article, she insinuates that she is critized more harshly because she is a woman, which means what? She is set up for a glass cliff or deserves a break because she’s a woman?

Both things can’t be true at once. You don’t get to forcibly brag about being as tough as a man while claiming victimhood for being a woman. 😂☠️🤪

It would be hilarious except it isn’t. She is paying herself $40M a year while treating life long employees like garbage easily taken the curb while gloating about her success.

She knows that her leadership decisions have been a mess from day one. And fortunately, karma comes for everyone eventually – in this life or the next.

My manager at Citi (very visible MD in the U.S. within a critical professional advisory global function) would often call my peer female colleagues b!#che$ and c@nt$. Those exact words. A Managing Director in USCC Risk demonstrated a disturbing pattern of using performance reviews as a tool of retaliation rather than genuine evaluation. When an employee pushed back on an inaccurate mid-year assessment, the MD responded not by engaging with the substance of the disagreement but by doubling down — praising the Director’s leadership while…

To Story 231, I am a retired advisor from Merrill, and feel terribly for your friend. As a woman who made her career in the 1980s, I know all too well the culture you’re describing. I looked at the LinkedIn post you reference, as I’m familiar with many of the players. I knew what to…

The Head of Wealth at Citi—somewhat ironically given his reputation also the head of the women’s network—hosted a Women’s Day event with Martina Navratilova. It’s a visible gesture, but my day-to-day reality remains walking into meetings with 30+ men and being the only woman in the room who is drowned out on the daily. It…

Dear Story 340, do not be discouraged or dismayed. What you are noting is a textbook corporate counter-offensive to a perceived threat: the impact of truth-telling thanks to the Wall Street Discriminates platform. Here’s what I would like to point out: First, on the question of Fraser’s relationship with Trump: let’s be precise about what’s…
