Story 78

I was told by a man on the Wealth management work floor he wanted to kiss my lips and he wanted to sit on my lap. This is in a Private Bank in a major financial hub in Asia.

I have seen and heard Market Heads in Wealth management in Private Banks at MD level openly comment about how big a woman’s breast looked in a particular blouse she was wearing, how the shape of a woman’s panties were and how enticing and aroused it was for them – all on the work floor. These are dirty predators.

Asia is another level murky with these stories. Nothing comes out. It is a facade that everything is hunky-dory here.

A Market Head in a local Private Bank is a known predator, he invites women for casual drinks before hiring them. He openly demands they sleep with him to secure the role. He is so inefficient and incapable yet strives since toxicity and mediocrity is tolerated in this part of the world.

Women of colour, women from other nationalities are always treated differently and discriminated against. There is no pay parity.

You will find only couple of women in a 20-30 members team. Diversity and inclusion is Greek and Latin. Emerging Countries like Thailand, India, Indonesia are far more progressive.

A lot happens here that quietly gets suppressed and swept under carpets due to the legal system and lack of open journalism. Arbitration and private mediation are tools successfully used by corporates to buy silence.

I forgot what it means to be a woman with opinions or voice working in this part of the world. Quite regressive I must say!

This story is about a senior woman in Citi’s Commercial Bank, whom I met through a women’s network there. At a professional gathering, a male colleague grabbed her and force-kissed her. Drunk. No ambiguity about what happened. The next morning he came in, sat down, and said nothing. Not an acknowledgment. Not an apology. Just…
