Can I appeal to women in the West to share this platform link with their Asian counterparts and their banker friends in the Asian Financial hubs?
I was a Private banker at an Asian local private bank and was terminated in an inhumane way because I raised a whistleblower complaint about sexual harassment against a senior MD. The bank botched the investigation and terminated my contract.
I knocked all doors – law enforcement, regulators. The local bank is so powerful here that they worked with the law enforcement and the local regulators to bury the case so it doesn’t get media attention. The bank in question has buried several sexual harassment complaints – penalising the victims and protecting the predators for years.
We are often restricted by a lack of freedom of speech, and the press does not cover many cases from this part of the world. The only way our voices can truly be heard is if more women come forward. The power of collective voices from the West is clearly visible.
I would request that stories from Asia come to light, just as stories in the West are coming to light through this platform. I assure you, it is way murkier in Asia!
