Story 250

To Story 245: What you describe closely mirrors what was reported in the Financial Times coverage of Citi’s CSIS division. Employee raises a concern and is quickly surrounded by lawyers who present themselves as fact-finders, but in reality are focused on gauging how firmly you intend to stand by your account—because if you do, you risk being targeted for termination or a layoff. Very wise to be documenting everything.

There have been several recent submissions to this platform suggesting that Citi is trying to exit its Consent Order prematurely – likely enabled by the current administration – who would probably ignore a whistleblower if one came forward anyway.

That is, of course, within their rights. But it raises a broader concern: without fully addressing its underlying issues, it’s only a matter of time before another “Revlon-type” problem occurs. Citi’s data environment is too fragmented and unstable to sustain shortcuts without consequences.

No ambiguity about what happened. The next morning he came in, sat down, and said nothing. Not an acknowledgment. Not an apology. Just…

In CCAR-adjacent functions — processes subject to federal oversight and with direct implications for how a bank represents its financial stability to regulators — governance exists precisely because the stakes of getting it wrong extend beyond the institution to the broader financial system. What happens when Citi leadership in those functions does not understand the…
