Story 97

I worked for a small firm that was bought last year by a large bank. During the transition period, I was informed that my title and responsibilities would be “changing.” I was then demoted from an Associate back to an Analyst and told this was a policy that was “standard” and “would apply across the board.”

A few weeks later, I found out that the two other associates I worked with (both men) would be allowed to keep their titles and responsibilities, despite the fact that both of them had been at the firm for less time than I had, and despite the fact that I consistently outperformed them by all metrics. When I raised these concerns with HR and the head of our group, I was dismissed and told that their hands were tied, there was nothing that could be done, and I would just have to make my peace with it.
